What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a therapeutic method used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin and tissue at specific parts of the body.
How does it work?
Acupuncture stimulates the body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called Endorphins. Endorphins help to block the pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain resulting in pain relief. It improves energy and biochemical balance thereby stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, decreasing inflammation and promoting physical and emotional well-being.
Will Acupuncture help me?
After a Whole Body Assessment, thorough history taking and reviewing your goals, Acupuncture may be an option for treatment. It is never used alone but in conjunction with manual therapy, education, postural training and exercises. It is most successful when combined with other forms of treatment to better aid your recovery and to get you moving better and pain free. Acupuncture also has an affect on your nervous system. Often times, when we are in pain, our nervous system is heightened which makes us more sensitive to even light touch. With Acupuncture, it can help balance the nervous system and tap into the body's own innate natural healing capabilities without the use of pharmaceautical drugs.
